On My Mind | Vol. 1

Today I’m launching a new series that I’m super excited about! On My Mind will act as a place and a space for me to share what’s currently on my mind…and heart. I love to write and put a lot of thought into everything that makes its way onto Purely Simply, I but also think it’s fun to have a more informal forum, a place to share what I’m cooking, reading, snapping photos of, learning about, working on and excited for. Think of it as a somewhat spontaneous update from yours truly! It’ll be our very own version of a catch up phone sesh, coffee date or happy hour 🙂

LOOKING BACK | What a week you guys! I kicked it off strong with my first yoga class in years and I finished my first book of 2020 (more on that later!). Then I came down with a nasty virus and spent a good amount of time at home. I had grand plans for content and getting back into a good routine… but all of that was put on hold so I could focus on getting well. The one thing getting me through the icky sicky days was my trip to San Fran next week for Beautycounter’s annual leadership conference, LEAD. I haven’t talked about it much, but I busted my butt and qualified to attend at the end of last year! It was a huge moment for me and one I am extremely proud of. Unfortunately, on Wednesday night we learned that the conference was being cancelled due to the ongoing threat of Coronavirus in Northern California. I am so grateful for the leadership at Beautycounter – I know that they made the right choice and am thankful they put our health and safety first. But to say that I’m disappointed would be an understatement. I was so looking forward to getting together with my friends and fellow leaders, educators and clean beauty boss babes. What an honor to be surrounded by so many women that I look up to – learning, growing and leading together. Hopefully something will still happen virtually, so for now I’m eagerly waiting for updates!

WHAT I’M EXCITED FOR | Having zero plans this weekend! I’m excited to sleep in, snuggle and cook some yummy food (vegan mac and cheese anyone?). The only thing on my list is to get back into the habit of working through my goal planner. I started filling out my PowerSheets in January, but put them on the back burner for the past two months. Why? Well, I think because it forces me to think through who I am and what I want and those are some pretty overwhelming thoughts when you’re a recovering perfectionist. Instead of beating myself up about getting “behind’, or focusing on having the right answer before I even start, I’m trying to remember that it’s okay to jump back in and just go with it.

ONE THING I LEARNED | Being sick has a way of putting things in perspective. This week reinforced that I’m not great at slowing down or relaxing. I was trying to run around and clean my apartment while coughing up a lung! While I don’t like being sick (I am the w-o-r-s-t sick person) I am grateful that this happened because it’s forcing me to slow down, a recent theme as of late.

ONE THING I’M PROUD OF | I finished my first book of the year! It was Jennifer Weiner’s Mrs. Everything and it was fantastic. The book follows two sisters from 1950s Detroit through present day as they struggle to find their space and place in an ever changing world. It touches on relationships, politics, and what it means to be a woman in society. One of my majors in college was Women’s Studies so I find timely and thought-provoking reads like this to be positively enlightening.

SNAPSHOTS | Some unedited #lifelately highlights from my camera roll… pretty vignettes at home, a date night, hunting for squirrels, puppy snuggles, weekend walks, more bruce, the cutest overalls, testing a safer swimwear detergent and Chef C’s chicken parm (made GF + DF) via our friend Caitlin! *apologies some photos didn’t transfer from the old blog!

BROWSING, READING, LEARNING | AKA some of my favorites from around ze web!

All of Meghan’s Paris posts are making me seriously excited for our trip in May, especially this one! C and I are thrilled to be working with Meghan and Paris Perfected for our second trip back to the city of love and I can’t wait to share more about that process with you guys.

I was so inspired by Claire’s Smart Shop Update – shopping smarter is something I’m working on (I talked a bit about it in this post) but I haven’t been as purposeful as of late. Claire’s updates are really encouraging me to get back on track.

I’ve been on a Defined Dish kick and two friends have recommended this sheet pan chicken to me – C and I are adding it to our list!

This article on making time for yourself really hit home for me. Three steps feels do-able, and I’m hoping to think through the first one this week.

Bouncing off of that, Caroline’s post on supporting your adrenals is spot on! I’m about to re-start her Adrenal Fatigue course and am so grateful to have her in my corner!
