How to Style Joggers 3 Ways

We are closing in on the end of the decade (GASP) and while I’m not big on New Year’s Eve, this year I’m quite excited about our plans! Tonight we are heading to church, making a home cooked meal (short ribs!) and staying in. The night may involve champagne in the crystal champagne flutes from our wedding and will definitely involve snuggles, old movies and popcorn!

Fun fact: December 31st is also Bruce’s birthday, so we’ll be doing a little celebration for him turning TWO as well 😉

As I mentioned in this post (and this one, too!) I love getting dressed up. Holiday or not, whether we are going out or staying in, I always like to “get dressed” but tend to gravitate towards polished comfort. One of the most comfortable, versatile and therefore most worn items in my closet is my joggers! I actually have a few pairs that range from black knit to quick dry athletic to cozy cashmere. I live in them on the weekends and wear them pretty much everywhere except the office! So, when it came to planning my NYE look, I knew joggers would be a key component. Today I’m going to share how to style joggers three ways, all with items you probably already have in your closet! I’m all about versatility so while these looks are all super fun for NYE, they also work for normal days of the week, too.

First things first: the joggers. I received this cashmere pair (wearing a small, runs tts, xs-xl) from Cuyana earlier this week and to be honest, I don’t think I’ve taken them off since! One of my goals for 2020 is to embrace Cuyana’s motto of fewer, better things. I talked about cultivating a wardrobe that I love in this post, and while I’ve definitely made progress I still I have a ways to go. More on that to come!

Now, let’s get back to the joggers: they are without a doubt the softest, warmest pants that I own. I love the flexible waist (can be worn high or low), tapered leg and slate gray color – together, those features make these pants easy to dress up or down. The pants are most definitely an investment, but I’ve learned that for me, when it comes to cashmere, quality is worth it. I know that this pair won’t stretch out or pill easily, making them a staple in my wardrobe for years to come! I also like this pair, this pair and this pair  too. Cashmere not your thing? Then this pair, this pair, this pair and this pair are all versatile options.

And now, the looks!

COMFY + COZY

Cozy Sweater (wearing a small, runs tts), Joggers (℅), Sneakers (wearing size 39, run tts)

A classy version of a sweatsuit is essentially my dream outfit. How fun is this sweater? The super soft material and slouchy sleeves make it cozy but the metallic and neutral flecks add texture and make the look a bit dressier. I paired it with my trusty white Veja Esplars but let’s be honest, slippers would be perfect too! PS I adore these sustainable sneakers but they are SO hard to find! Have no fear – I tracked them down here in almost a full size run 🙂 This look will be on rotation this winter – especially for brunch!

A TOUCH OF GLAM

Top (old, similar here and here), Joggers (℅), Pumps (wearing size 8, run tts), Earrings (old, similar here), Bag (℅)

YES, you can dress up joggers! The tapered leg pairs perfectly with a pointy toe pump to make legs look long and sleek. Add a fun, oversized top to mix up your proportions – sequins, velvet, or silk would all be great here – pair it with a statement earring and you’re golden (or in this case, glittery!). This look would be fun for date night or girls night out!

POLISHED PREP

Headband, Button Down Tunic (old, similar here), Joggers (℅), Flats (old, similar here), Earrings, Bag (℅)

When in doubt, add a crisp, white button down. Seriously, I have yet to find an outfit that doesn’t work with this strategy! I chose a tunic style for a more relaxed feel, but a fitted version tucked in or out would look lovely, too. Paired with sophisticated accessories like a velvet headband, bow ballet flats, pearls and a bow bag, this look is polished but practical and might even be an option for the office!

Now, can you guess which look I’ll choose for tonight? Hopefully this gave you some new ideas for wearing your joggers in the new year. Wishing you a happy, healthy and cozy day – and remember, be safe tonight!
