How to Style Cropped Pants 4 Ways

Well, friends, we are officially in the first week of fall! Admittedly, I’m not quite really ready for the seasons to change. I know. I literally never thought I would hear myself say that! Fall is my favorite season! I love the crisp cool air, the activities, the pumpkins. But I think, for me, the struggle is that I haven’t reconciled the unusual summer we had. This year has been a bit upside down (to say the least) and while I’m a little mixed up seasonally, the one thing that’s really helping me turn a corner is my fall wardrobe.

Fall clothes are the best clothes. I can say that with 100% confidence. The soft materials, cozy textures, lovely layers and fun accessories. Hats! Scarves! Boots! I love it all. And I’ll admit, having two style sessions this week involving transitional dressing has really made the difference in my melancholy mood.

Today I’m so excited to style one of my wardrobe worhorses (these pants) with one of my dearest friends, Blair! Blair and I connected on Instagram and I joined her Beautycounter team almost two years ago. We instantly clicked and I honestly feel like I’ve known her forever. Blair is the most geniune person I know with the biggest heart, most positive outlook and coolest casual style. She’s not a regular mom guys, she’s a cool mom. We share a love for neutral style, clean beauty, green smoothies and of course, these cropped pants. You can find her looks over on her blog, The Fox and She, and on Instagram, too!

THE PANTS

When Blair and I were deciding what to style, we really wanted to pick something we both already have and wear a lot. Enter the Everlane Straight Leg Crop, the slimmer sister of their ever-famous wide leg crop (which I also have… in two colors). I like to think of them like a cooler and more versatile chino. The pants are made of a heavy cotton with a bit of a stretch, making them structured but super comfortable. I love the high waist, cropped length (great for year round wear) and easy, straight silhouette. They also come in SO many colors (I’m wearing sandstone).

As far as fit goes, I personally find that they run tts or a touch big – I’m a 2-4 and I’m wearing a 2. They give a bit but don’t lose their shape after multiple wears. That being said, I carry my weight in the middle and if you have a smaller waist, you could probably go down a full size! I have friends that have done that and prefer it. If you’re on the fence, I typically order two sizes (so I can compare them together) and return one – Everlane has a pretty easy return policy.

And now, the looks!

LACE + LAYERS

This is a great transitional look – the layers mean I can easily adjust for whatever early fall throws my way! I also think it’s a bit unexpected. You might not think to pair a lace cami with chinos but guys, it totally works, especially in a neutral color! I paired it with a cozy long cardigan (old, similar here and here) in black, which feels a little dressier, and slingbacks.

MONOCHROMATIC

You didn’t think I’d do a style session without a monochromatic look did you? I’ve been on a cardigan kick lately (see this post) and freaking love wearing cardigans as tops: unbuttoned a bit, with nothing underneath. This one is one of the most beautiful pieces I own – it’s soft, feminine and can be worth with the buttons in the back, too! It’s also sustainable.

I did a front tuck and added neutral flats (these are so comfy btw). I love that this look feels ladylike, despite the pants being more classic and tailored. It’s all about how you style them! I’ll wear this around the house, to coffee or even out with heels. It’s such a cozy and cute option!

PRO TIP: Wearing neutral shoes is a great way to elongate legs when you’re wearing cropped pants!

FALL READY

Okay we just went from transitional fall to realllll fall y’all! I’m wearing my favorite cashmere crew (it holds up pretty well, all things considered) but also like this one and this one. A black or white t-shirt would look fab if it’s warmer, too! I added my favorite boyfriend blazer – mine is old but this one and this one are similar – and brown suede booties (similar here and here) for a more tailored and polished vibe.

I love mixing neutrals – creams, black, browns, and beige all come together so nicely here and really accentuate the pattern in the jacket. This is something I would have worn to work in a nano second and will still wear as I WFH!

PRO TIP: Cropped pants are not just for summer! One of my fave things about these pants is they are the perfect length to pair seamlessly with flat and heeled shoes! As long as you can fit the boot under the pant, you’re good to go.

BLACK + WHITE

And last but not least – ladylike and leather! You can’t really see it from the pictures but I’m wearing a silk polka dot top with ruffled sleeves (the ladylike) and a leather moto jacket (the leather, duh). It’s just the right amount of contrast, which was easily done by keeping things in the same color scheme!

I added my all time favorite boots – these neoprene sock booties! These are super similar (I have them, too!) and not as high. I think these pants look so nice with black. It’s a great contrast! It’s been cool the past few days so I’ll definitely be wearing this combo super soon.
