How to Style a Jumpsuit 4 Ways

How To Style is back and I’m so excited to partner with my friend Ashlee to share a total of 8 ways to style a jumpsuit! I’ll share my four looks here, and she’ll share hers over on her blog and we’ll both do a virtual style session on Instagram (you can find me here and her here).

A little backstory: Ashlee and I met through Beautycounter over a year ago and became insta-friends (instantly and on insta ?) before finally meeting in person last year when she came to visit NYC. We share a love for easy recipes, clean beauty, accessible style and, of course… Everlane! We wanted to style something we both already had in our closets that you would have as well so it was only fitting for us to style this Everlane jumpsuit. Even if you don’t have the exact same one, hopefully you have a jumpsuit that you love and feel great in. IMO, a jumpsuit is the perfect, versatile year round piece, and I live in them come summer!

At first glance, jumpsuits may seem like a one and done deal. You might see one hanging in your closet and think hmm, a jumpsuit is one piece – can I really wear it multiple ways? To which I say ABSOLUTELY! It does depend on the jumpsuit, with the most versatile options being sleeveless with tie belts, like this one (but I also love this one and this one too!).

This jumpsuit checks all of my boxes for a wardrobe staple – it’s neutral in color, flattering in fit and can be worn multiple ways. I adore the modern square neckline and the (adjustable!) straps that are wide enough to cover my bra (which you could even skip tbh). The cropped straight leg is perfect for summer, and works on me (I’m 5’8″) and Ashlee, too (she’s 5’4″)! The soft, breathable linen is by far the softest linen I’ve ever worn – it isn’t itchy at all and can be washed and dried in the washing machine! And, last but not least, the tie belt is removable (more on that below!). I’m wearing a size 2 and have a good amount of room – I wouldn’t be able to size down due to my long torso but some may prefer to!

And now, the looks!

LADYLIKE WITH A CARDIGAN

Cardigans are the best layering pieces and this one (tts, wearing a small) is probably my favorite because it can be worn two ways: buttons in the front and buttons in the back! I wore this exact outfit around my house a few weeks ago when I needed a mood boost, but can totally see myself wearing it out and about on weekends, to brunch, to church… anywhere really! The soft, sweet cut sweater, tie-on espadrilles and bow-tied belt add a ladylike feel and mix up the straight, boxy cut of the jumpsuit.

LAYERED SANS BELT

When thinking about “layering” it’s easy to go right to adding clothes on top of each other, but layering them under each other is a great option, too! Whenever I have a sleeveless, simple cut (think: cami-style) jumpsuit or dress, I like to throw a fitted t-shirt underneath (tts for fitted, size up for comfort). It’s a little 90s, which I kinda love. Another go-to tip? When you have a jumpsuit with a removable belt, you can instantly change up your look by removing it entirely! C calls this look “Elementary School Teacher Chic” which I take as a huge compliment – some of my most favorite humans are or were elementary school teachers!

SWAP THE BELT

This is one of my favorite tricks – I simply swap out the tie belt for a more structured version to create a whole new look! This is an especially great trick for traveling – I always back an extra belt so I can create a completely different vibe from the same outfit. My belt is old but I love this one! I paired this look with my favorite neutral mules to elongate my leg and make the belt pop!

LAYERED WITH A BUTTON DOWN

Whenever I do a style session, I almost always include a button down. A classic white, loose linen or comfy chambray shirt are all wardrobe staples for me and can all be worn over a jumpsuit. I went with an easy white linen option here to bring out the white stripe. You could totally wear the shirt loose and open, but I like mine tied for a fun twist! Plus, if it warms up I can simply tie the button down around my waist and be good to go 🙂 I love this concept paired with flat sandals (similar here). Easy, breezy, helloooo summer!
