Five Favorites 3/5

I’m just a girl. Sitting in front of a mirror. Hoping to capture this *light* moment. Seriously the natural light situation in our new apartment is so dreamy – it’s one of the main reasons why we fell in love with the place! Every day I find myself bopping around soaking in little moments like this.

This week was relatively uneventful and this weekend will likely be the same! We’re still hoping for warmer temps so we can get outside more, but will have to settle for snuggles instead I suppose! I’m also due for a monthly update, so expect that to be up in the next few days (better late than never amiright?). A few favorites from the week:

Laundry Saver

Since C goes into the office everyday and I’m impatient, I’ve started helping with the…gasp…laundry. I don’t really love doing laundry but I do love folding it! Truthfully I find incorporating it into my workday (vs waiting until evening) to do it makes it much more manageable. So does this hamper. I cannot stress this enough – if you’re a city dweller with an in building (vs. in unit) W/D situation, a hamper on wheels is truly a gamechanger. We spent years transfering laundry from a hamper to a bag and it was annoying and, frankly, not the most sanitary since the bag always ends up on the floor. We finally splurged on this hamper and I would do it again in a heartbeat! I literally wheel it onto the elevator, into the laundry room and back up again. WINNING.

Let it Shine

I don’t know if it’s the aforementioned light situation or what, but I’ve been browsing Etsy for unique ribbed, bubbled and cut crystal bowls, candlesticks and catchalls. I love the sparkle and twinkly of glass and crystal oh so much and I feel like adding them into the everyday, vs saving them for “special” occasions makes everyday moments that much sweeter. These days I’ve been using a crystal wine coaster to hold my water bottle at my desk. I love it so much that I searched for another and finally found the exact same one listed on Etsy – now we use them on our bedside tables! Etsy browsing is highly entertaining, and I recommend starting with key words related to whatever you’re looking for and letting yourself get carried away!

I also love a deliberate candle moment and now that we’ve unpacked all of our candlesticks I’ve been using those too! I found the most delightful crystal taper trio from Orrefors on Etsy and it goes so well mixed in with these and these. Which brings me to my next favorite thing…

Safer Taper

I owe you a candle post! Hopefully I’ll crank that out this weekend because even in spring and summer, ya girl enjoys a candlelit moment in the evenings! IMO a taper is the perfect accent. I used to pick up plain white tapers from the local hardware store because they were cheap, and didn’t think much about them because they weren’t obviously scented. That being said, I have no idea what they are made out of but I’m almost positive they were paraffin wax. Most tapers are made from paraffin because it’s more stable, but it is a petroleum by-product and the creation and burning of it can cause some serious health issues. One study found that paraffin-based candles emitted toxic toluene and benzene, known carcinogens, while other materials like soy candles & beeswax did not. More on that later, but basically I’ve been making an effort to find some safer tapers. So when Megan posted these swirly twirly beeswax beauties, I knew I had to try them! And now I am hooked on Greentree Home. Not only are their candles safe and fragrance free, but they come in the most beauitful and whimsical shapes – ropes and bamboo and twigs and more. I love that each one is thoughtfully created by founder Jenifer Green in her shop in the Catskills. Lighting each one as we wind down for the day brings so much meaning and beauty to our home!

Cozy Feet

I somehow misplaced 90% of my socks during the move and had to stock up recently. TBH I wear socks a lot when at home and when I sleep. I do that because my hands and feet are always cold, but there are other serious benefits too! Since I wear a lot of joggers and cropped pants (despite the cold) I’ve developed a habit of wearing tall sucks underneath to keep my ankles warm. Constantly rocking a 90s vibe in the Massey House mmkay. Here are a few of my current faves!

Unf*ck Your Brain

Whenever I have to walk somewhere I try to take advantage of the time to do some self care in podcast form. One of my favorite podcasts – which I’ve mentioned before – is called Unf*ck Your Brain with coach Kara Lowentheil. Her thought work teachings are beyond empowering and so freaking insightful. At her core she’s a feminist that focuses on dismantling systems and acknowledging social conditioning and negative self talk. It’s life coach stuff but not manifestation law of attraction…stuff. Kara provides tangible, actionable ways to understand yourself and your THOUGHTS better. And my therapist always says when we understand ourselves, we can stand under ourselves. Ya feel me? Anywho, I love Kara’s work because I can actually implement and conciously work on her strategies on a day to day basis.

I recently listened to Episode 166: Perfectionism & Achieving Impossible Goals and it totally rocked my socks off. If you have any perfectionistic tendencies I cannot recomend it enough! I also love the episode Taking Responsiblity For Other People’s Feelings and How to Stop Procrastinating. There’s like a zillion more and if you just scroll through the titles I guarantee something will speak to you!

That’s all for now, folks! Have a great weekend!
