What a week! *dips spoon into entire jar of peanut butter*. Can anyone else relate? This morning I realized that this weekly series dropped off the radar and ya know what, I really missed putting it together! I’ve shared with you before that post-Thanksgiving I was barely getting by – mentally, physically and emotionally. My go go go go approach completely backfired and I was exhausted. I ended up taking a social break for a week – something I highly recommend if you’re feeling ‘whelmed or burned out. My time away from the screens was a really nice way to kick off December, which sadly ended up being…just as bananas as November. Oh well, whaddya gonna do? Perhaps another break – or spoonful of peanut butter – is in order 😉 Here are a few favorite things from the week! PS this small shop Peanut Butter is my favorite! I shared it on this gift guide.
LET IT SNOW, let it snow, let it snow! We had our second snow of the season and first big storm this past week and it was glorious. Bruce has only ever experienced city snow (which is different) and he loved running around in it, eating it, and digging in it. I took about 90384234 videos of him (he is my first child after all) but only posted a few 😉 Another thing I realized is that I can’t find my gloves and I misplaced my ear warmers in the move. While I have cute winter gear I don’t have much practical winter gear so I’m noodling on some of the below for our winter walks.
I’ve been on a total Pinterest binge the past few weeks with interiors and home decor. A girl can dream, right? It’s been fun to find some new accounts and re-visit old ones (@ohidesignblog and @jyoungdesignhouse and @ashleykanehome are some current faves) and get creative in a way I haven’t really been lately. You can find my Pinterest here!
How’s your skin feeling? Mine is way drier these days (because…winter) and I’ve been testing some products that I’m excited to share. Dry skin is the worst and for me, leads to acne and other pesky problems. If you’re looking to up your safer skincare game, Beautycounter is doing 20% OFF your purchase for new clients through the 27th, and I shared my all time favorite products in this post. I also shared some Biossance favorites today (they are also having a 25% sale through tomorrow!), and all of my skincare empties on IGTV!
For those that celebrate Christmas, do you have a menu yet? I went all out for Thanksgiving and sadly we ended up wasting a lot of food. I absolutely despise wasting food and will use up as much as I can however I can (this recipe is great if you have carrots and celery on their last legs!). Anyway, I think we’ll keep it simple this year and do a grazing board on Christmas Eve and make Claire’s braised short ribs with my mom’s mashed potatoes and roasted veggies on Christmas Day. Easy peasy and just the right amount of leftovers for the two of us! If you need some inspo, I have lots of recipe ideas in this post.
Okay last but not least – I’ve got holiday traditions on the brain. This year is going to be very different – we’ll be alone, in a home that isn’t ours and we decided that we aren’t doing gifts either. We actually didn’t even put up a tree yet! At the risk of sounding like a total grinch, we simply haven’t been able to get out sh*t together and ultimately figured… why stress ourselves out even more? C just started a new job and we’re nagivating a lot of changes. As someone who loves the holiday season and always decorates, I knew that trying to go full Christmas elf was just not in the cards. And you know what? I’m actually feeling pretty okay about it.
This may sound cheesy, but we are so freaking grateful to be healthy and, all things considered, happy. What a freaking privilege to say during a year that has been hot garbage for so many. So, while the holiday will be different in so many ways, we plan to make our own little traditions and make the best of the time off from work. There’s as chance we may put up my in-laws fake tree this weekend, but that’s TBD at this point! One thing we definitely plan to do? WEAR MATCHING JAMMIES. C and I do this every year (sometimes with family, sometimes not) and it’s the one tradition we plan to keep. I’ll share more about this in the coming days 🙂 How are you guys feeling about December? Is there anything I can do to support you during this time? Please know that if the next few days and weeks are tough, you are never alone.
