TGIF y’all! I am so excited to be partnering with my dear friend Lindsae to share two tequila based cocktails! I’ll share my recipe here and on Instagram and you can find hers on her Instagram, @lindsaemetz, and on her blog, too!
A quick note about Lindsae – she’s the freakin’ best. We actually met through Instagram and are now partners with Beautycounter, in an Anti-Racism book club together and frequently chat about politics and the craziness that is…life. Lindsae is so dang smart and she’s one of the kindest, most authentic, stylish and curious people I know. I admire her openness and authenticity and love following along on her adventures with Brian and Uly (Bruce’s future BFFAE). She’s a breath of fresh air and I am so grateful for her friendship.
Okay now back to cocktails! Clean cocktails might become a series, it might not. I’m not really sure. TBH I have mixed feelings on calling a cocktail clean. I think there are clean-er alcoholic beverages but alcohol’s impact on the body is def not great. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a glass of wine or a low sugar cocktail every so often. But, TBH, my alcohol consumption these days is pretty limited and I often go through long periods where I don’t drink at all – not because I have anything against drinking but because it only takes a couple drinks to make me feel super shitty the next day (#thisis32). More on that in a future post, but for now my point is that when I do drink, I like to make my drinks as clean as possible! Clean wine, low sugar cocktails, a less is more approach, if you will. Hence, Clean Cocktails.
So, with that context in mind, let’s chat a bit about my friend, tequila. My relationship with tequila is new-ish. Actually, my relationship with cocktails is new-ish! I’ve always been more of a wine gal, but when I had to decrease my sugar intake (#hormonalimbalance) I had to completely cut out alcohol and once I added it back into my diet I had to stick to clear, hard alcohol, AKA tequila and vodka. And while my previous experience with tequila was limited to shots (bleghhh) once I figured out BLANCO tequila it quickly became my beverage of choice! I love that it’s so light, refreshing and can be tweaked depending on my mood – sweet, spicy, sour – anything goes! My favorite combo is a boring old tequila soda with extra fresh lime.
I am by no means a cocktail connoisseur so I made this recipe up with some of my favorite ingredients and hoped for the best. The only equipment required is a blender because ya girl does not have cool bar tools. I also only used 8 ingredients, most of which you likely have at home, and the only alcohol based ingredient is the tequila – ya girl also does not own any fancy mixers or sweeteners! My goal was to utilize the best flavors of the late summer season – hence, peaches – and do a fun twist on a traditional margarita.
The end result was smooth, slightly sweet, and honestly – quite the treat. Cheers to the weekend, friends! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed this cocktail!
Peach Margarita
A clean(ish), refreshing, summer take on the margarita!
For the drink
- 1/2 peach (I used 1/3-1/2 for one drink)
- 2 tbsp lime juice (fresh is best!)
- 1 tsp honey (manuka or raw preferred)
- 1 shot blanco tequila (I like Casamigos)
- 3/4 cup sparkling water (you can also use club soda or seltzer)
For the rim
- 1 tbsp kosher salt
- 1 tbsp coconut sugar (or brown sugar, if not sugar sensitive)
- lime wedge or juice (for the rim!)
For the glass
- ice (3/4 full)
Add drink ingredients to a blender and blend
Mix salt and coconut sugar on a plate. Line the rim of your glass with a lime wedge and place upside down on the plate. Cover rim as much as you like!
Add ice to the cup, pour blended mixture over and use part of the peach as a garnish!
OH hiiiiiii I love tequila and margs and peaches, ahah! This sounds soo good, and I am adding peaches to my grocery list!! Love this, Nora 🙂
